Presentation to Startin Honda We finally got to catch up with our friends from Startin Honda and thank them for their support of last years’ ‘Walk for Basil’. The Bromyard Road company were the events main sponsors and as well as contributing money they also had one of their Honda Civics sprayed with the Foundations name and the events logo that we were able to use as one of our support cars. As a token of our appreciation we presented Startin with one of the specially produced and framed shirts from the walk signed by the entire 2014 Worcestershire County Cricket Club squad which is now proudly displayed in their showroom.

Foundation Ambassador Visits New Road, Worcester. Paul Smith ex Warwickshire cricketer and a Foundation Ambassador visted New Road, Worcester, yesterday (Wednesday), ahead of the counties warm up game against Gloucestershire. Paul met up with Brett D’Oliveira and Foundation Members Mark Ashbourne and Chris Everton. The role of our Ambassadors is to promote the D’Oliveira Foundation around the world. Paul is also an Ambassador for the Princes Trust which like our Foundation, also helps to develop young and underprivilaged people. Paul was also a close friend of Damians having spent time together on the MCC ground staff, he was the first white play to appear for St. Augustines CC in Cape Town where Basil played his early cricket.
Over the last two weeks we’ve been teasing you with photographs of Basil and Damian and now we can reveal the reason why those images are so important. Not just to us as The D’Oliveira Foundation but more importantly also to                    the D’Oliveira family. The Foundation has commissioned the renowned sculptor John McKenna to produce                    a joint bust of Basil and Damian. John was one of a number of artists who presented proposals to us and                    he was the one chosen by the entire D’Oliveira family. They felt John would best create the statue they                    wanted to see. The images have been chosen by Naomi and Tracey respectively as the images that best                    show the love, warmth, generosity and character of the two and we sincerely thank both Naomi and                    Tracey for choosing them for us. The bust will cost £8,800, be made of bronze and once finished it will                    be sited in the atrium area of The View at Worcestershire County Cricket Club. We will be releasing images                    of the design in the near future. The D’Oliveira family have rightly been involved at all stages of this                    project. We know that with their continued help the bust that is produced will be a lasting symbol of what                    both Basil and Damian meant not just to the family but also Worcestershire County Cricket Club, its’                    supporters and cricket as a whole. Generous Local Businessman Supports Gala Dinner
BIG-HEARTED Wordsley businessman Geoff Hill has risen to the challenge of supporting The D’Oliveira Foundation by donating a state of the art compact Zanussi vacuum cleaner to be used as a raffle prize at our Gala Dinner in September. Geoff has donated well over £250,000 to a host of good causes through his charitable trust, which he runs from the profits of his electrical superstore in Amblecote and said "I've enjoyed doing it; it's nice to help and people appreciate it. There's a lot of great people out there in the community”. The trust sees ten per cent of the net profits from Geoff's successful shop donated to needy Black Country groups - many of which receive no funding from other sources. Over the years scout groups, sports clubs, children’s charities, community organisations and deserving individuals have benefitted.

Anniversary Bust Update The wheels are now in motion as far as the Anniversary Bust is concerned, on Monday we handed over a cheque for £3,800 to artist John McKenna, the first of the three payments that we have to make. John is also working with members of the D’Oliveira family to identify images of the sides and back of Basils and Damians heads to help him produce the perfect likeness. Once the correct likenesses have been found the exciting part of producing the clay mould will begin and we will be bringing you images of this live on the website.
Gala Dinner’s First Course “Just for Startin’s” Long term supporters of The D’Oliveira Foundation Startin Honda have again joined forces with us in a novel sponsorship deal. The Bromyard Road based company will be sponsoring the starters at the Gala Dinner on Saturday 26th September and the first course will be called “Just for Startin’s”. The event is being held in The Graeme Hick Pavilion at Worcestershire County Cricket Club. Group Marketing Manager Ian Wild said “Startin Honda are delighted to be a continuing sponsor of the Basil D'Oliveira Foundation. We were so impressed with not only the work but the commitment of the team to develop Cricket and assist those with talent but perhaps not the financial backing to pursue their dream,  This was displayed so perfectly last year when the team including Mark Ashbourne and Ryan D'Oliveira walked from Worcester New Road to the SWALEC stadium in Cardiff raising awareness and sponsorship. We supported them with the new Honda Civic Tourer as a support vehicle. We're proud to be associated once again and only hope that by doing so will further the foundations reach and general awareness.” To learn more about Thomas Startin's click here
New Face on the Committee
The D’Oliveira Foundation is please to announce that Tim Cox has kindly agreed to become part of our new look committee. Tim (pictured with son Ben), is well known in local cricketing circles having played for a number of local clubs. A lifelong supporter of Worcestershire County Cricket Club he was also instrumental in the organising and undertaking of last years extremely successful Walk for Basil. Chairman Dormston Cook said “We are extremely pleased that Tim gas agreed to get more involved with The Foundation, as well as his cricketing knowledge and experience Tim will also bring additional business and commercial skills to the table, all of which will be vital as we progress as an organisation. As most people will be aware The Foundation has undergone a number of exciting changes over the last couple of months and we hope to be recruiting a new Treasurer in the next few weeks, all of this will help bring about our aim of gaining “charitable status.” Tim is proud to have been born in the Black Country and at a young age, often made the short journey to watch the county from his home in Tipton to Dudley Cricket Club. Having been educated at Heathfield School and Sebright School Wolverley, he then played cricket for Hagley, Belbroughton, Warwick Acorns and Worcestershire Gents. Rumour has it; Tim was transferred for a bag of spuds between Hagley and Belbroughton!! Tim still plays a bit for Belbroughton Strollers and now has more time to follow the county after the sale of the family business Purity Soft Drinks. Having participated in the sponsored walk last year, Tim is delighted to have been asked to join the D’Oliveira Foundation Committee.
